Sodium Phytate
Sodium Phytate is the fully neutralized sodium salt of phytic acid, a naturally occurring compound found abundantly in plant seeds and bran. In skincare formulations, it functions primarily as a powerful chelating agent that binds trace metal ions—such as calcium, iron, and copper—thereby stabilizing products, preventing oxidation, and potentiating preservative efficacy. Beyond its preservative roles, Sodium Phytate offers multiple skin benefits: it provides gentle exfoliation and brightening by softly promoting dead cell turnover, improves moisture retention and skin elasticity, helps normalize oily skin and reduce pore appearance, and may assist in diminishing the look of cellulite. Widely used at 0.05–0.5% in water-based systems, this biodegradable, plant-derived ingredient is ideal for serums, creams, cleansers, and sunscreen formulations targeting stability, radiance, and overall skin health.
