Polyglyceryl-2 Caprate
Polyglyceryl-2 Caprate is a plant-derived, non-ionic surfactant and emulsifier produced by esterifying glycerol with capric (decanoic) acid, yielding a clear to yellowish viscous liquid with an average HLB of 8–10. It stabilizes oil-in-water and water-in-oil formulations by reducing interfacial tension, enabling smooth, creamy textures in creams, lotions, cleansers, and makeup without additional emulsifiers. Its amphiphilic structure binds water and oil, providing hydration and a soft skin feel while reducing transepidermal water loss. It also exhibits selective antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria, enhancing product preservation and supporting blemish-prone skin. Non-comedogenic and non-irritating, it is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive formulations.
