Pentylene Glycol
Pentylene Glycol is a multifunctional diol (pentane-1,2-diol) used in skincare formulations as a humectant, solvent, emulsion stabilizer and broad-spectrum antimicrobial. Derived from corn or sugarcane, its two hydroxyl groups attract and retain moisture in the stratum corneum, enhancing hydration and supporting a healthy skin barrier. It improves formula texture and stability by facilitating ingredient dispersion and boosting preservative efficacy, helping to prevent microbial growth and extend shelf life. Its low molecular weight also enhances penetration of active ingredients without irritation, making it suitable for all skin types, including sensitive or dehydrated skin.
