Ceramide NP
Ceramide NP, also known as Ceramide 3, is a skin-identical lipid molecule naturally found in the outermost layer of the skin (stratum corneum). Structurally, it features a phytosphingosine backbone linked to a normal fatty acid, allowing it to closely mimic and integrate with the skin’s own ceramides. As a critical component of the skin barrier, Ceramide NP reinforces the lipid matrix, locking in moisture and preventing transepidermal water loss. This helps restore and maintain hydration, enhance suppleness, and protect against external stressors such as pollution and UV rays. Its barrier-strengthening action soothes irritation, supports recovery from dryness or sensitivity, and reduces the tendency for flare-ups in conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Ceramide NP is suitable for all skin types but is especially beneficial for dry, sensitive, or compromised skin, making it a staple in moisturizers, serums, and barrier-repair creams.
